MJ Platform tracks the location and movement of your inventory by requiring users to report the location of inventory when they move it as part of an operation.

This article covers the following topics:

Levels of Storage Locations

There are four levels of storage locations for each facility module in MJ Platform:

  • Buildings, which contain

  • rooms, which contain

  • zones, which contain

  • sections.

You can have any number of locations at each level. For example, you could have three zones within one room, and five zones within another room.

Planning Your Storage Location Setup

To plan the way you want your storage locations to be reflected MJ Platform, start by considering your buildings. Is there more than one building at this facility? (For example, an external warehouse.)

Next, consider the rooms within your buildings. Which rooms are used for inventory storage, even if only temporarily?

Zones are imaginary partitions within rooms. The way you set up your zones may be different for each room. For example, a single room may host both packaged products and bulk products. You could create two zones within that room to reflect this.

Sections are the most specific locations, and the only ones that will be available for selection when moving inventory in the system. (The higher levels of storage exist to help you in organizing your sections.) The way you set up your sections may be different for each zone. For example, a single zone may host packaged products of five different strains. You could create five sections within that zone to reflect this.

Ultimately, your setup will be a balance between specificity and ease-of-use. Create a setup that makes it easy for users to quickly choose the correct location for inventory in the middle of a job, while also allowing their selection to be precise enough to suit your tracking needs.

Cultivation Locations and Sales Locations

The cultivation facility module has both storage locations and cultivation locations. Cultivation locations are for plants before they become product inventory.

The retail facility module has storage locations and sales locations. Sales locations are for products about to be sold or on display. For example, a checkout desk, display window, or a weighing area. When a budtender logs into the retail facility, they can choose one of the sales locations after clicking their user icon in the top-right corner to indicate where they are performing their sales.

The setup of cultivation locations and sales locations is similar to the setup of storage locations.

How to Set up Locations

  1. Open the App Drawer and click Facility Settings.

  2. Click one of the following:

    • Storage Locations to set up storage locations for products.

    • Cultivation Locations (in the cultivation facility module) to set up locations for plants.

    • Sales Locations (in the retail facility module) to set up locations for customer-facing products.

  3. Enter your storage location setup using the fields provided.

    • Note: In some Metrc jurisdictions, you are required to map some locations to an approved Metrc-defined location. If there is an Integrated Location Name field directly under the Sub-Section name field, select the appropriate mapping according to Metrc's requirements.

    • Click Add (+) next to a location to add a location within it. For example, click the Add button next to a room to add a zone within the room.

    • Click the X button next to a location to delete it along with all the locations within it. You cannot delete a location if it or any location within it is currently in use as a location for some item in the system.

    • You must give each storage location a unique name. In the example displayed below, a suffix was used for the section names to make them unique while being descriptive.

    • If the Inventory is only available in-store checkbox is displayed, select it to make the inventory levels of all items in this location appear as zero when a checked-in patient is browsing your retail product menu unless they are in the "in-store" queue.

    • You can click Print next to a location to get its barcode. Later on, you can then paste the barcode number into the search field on the Plants page, Inventory page, etc. to find all items in that location.

  4. Click Save All Changes to save the storage location setup for the current facility module. You can now select the locations in any job that involves inventory movement.
