How to Set Up Your Plants for Metrc

Before you can complete this procedure, you need to have your Metrc plant tags received into platform. If you haven't done so already, see How to Add Tracking IDs (Tags) from METRC.

Setting up your plants involves the following tasks covered in this article:

1. Generate a report of your plants

Use this report as a record of the state of your plants before rebuilding them.

  1. Open the App Drawer and click Analytics.

  2. On the All tab, click Plants.

  3. Scroll to the Plants Reporting section and wait for it to load, then scroll to the Plants Report subsection, hover over the top-right corner of it to reveal the Download button

  4. Choose a location on your computer to save the report.

2. Remove all your plants in MJ Platform

STOP. Do not complete this procedure unless you have generated your plants report as outlined above.

  1. Open the App Drawer and click Plants.

  2. Destroy plants:

    1. Click the checkbox at the top-left of the list to select all plants on the page.

    3. Fill out the required fields:

      • In the Waste field, enter 0.

      • From the Destroy Reason drop-down menu, select Destroy.

      • In the Destruction Date field, enter today's date.

      • In the Notes field, enter "Metrc preparation" or a similar note.

    4. Click Save. This deactivates the selected plants.

  3. Repeat step 2 until all plants are destroyed.

3. Rebuild plants based on the report

  1. Open the plants report in Microsoft Excel. Each row in the report represents one plant.

  2. Crete a pivot table from the report in Microsoft Excel:

    1. Click the Select All Cells button

    2. Open the Insert tab and click Pivot Table.

    3. Click OK to generate the pivot table.

    4. From the Pivot Table Fields side bar on the right, select the following checkboxes in the order they are listed here:

      1. Section Name

      2. Stage

      3. Planting Batch ID

      4. Plant Type

      5. Strain Name

    5. From the same list, drag Strain Name to the Values pane. this completes the pivot table, which will be used in the next step.

  3. Add plants in MJ Platform based on the report:

    1. From the pivot table, take note of the deepest (most indented) level. This is your target, which indicates the number of plants you have of a strain for a specific plant type, batch ID, growth phase, and section (location).

      In the example below, at the deepest level, you can see that this user has 50 Abracadabra strain clones with the planting batch ID ABRA201001P in the Flowering phase located in a place called "section 1".

    2. In MJ Platform, go to the Plant Listing page and click Create Plant.

    3. Fill in the required fields:

      • Strain Name: Select the same strain as the one containing your target in the pivot table. In the sample above, it would be Abracadabra.

      • Planting Date: Select today's date.

      • Plant Type: Select the same plant type as the one containing your target in the pivot table. In the sample above, it would be Clone.

      • Quantity: Enter the number listed in the pivot table for the target.

      • Change Location: Select the same location as the one containing your target in the pivot table. In the sample above, it would be section 1.

    4. Click Save and Create More.

  4. Repeat step 3 for the next target until you have gone through them all.
    In the example below, this was done nine times.

4. Update the rebuilt plants

Using the report, go through each rebuilt plant in MJ Platform and modify them to select the correct growth phase and apply Metrc plant tags.

  1. Open the App Drawer and click Plants.

  2. Click Scan Search.

  3. From the drop-down menu next to the search bar, select Batch.

  4. Update plants according to the groups in the pivot table created earlier. Start with the first target in the pivot table again.

    1. Copy the target's batch ID.

    2. Paste the batch ID into the search field in MJ Platform. The list updates.

      • If the list does not update after a few moments, click Update Search.

    3. Click the listed batch and click Plant Modification.

    4. From the Change Growth Phase drop-down menu, select the growth phase containing the target in the pivot table. This displays the Beginning Tag and Ending Tag fields.

    5. In the Beginning Tag field, select the first available Metrc plant tag. The Ending Tag is automatically populated according to the plant count.

    6. In the Modification Date field, enter today's date.

    7. Click Save And Print Label.

  5. Repeat step 4 for each target in the pivot table until you have gone through them all.
