MJ Platform organizes products into categories and subcategories. Category management is an organization-wide configuration. This means that any changes will apply to all facility modules.

The following categories are present by default:

  • Flower

  • Concentrate

  • Cartpens

  • Edible

  • Infused

  • Unmedicated

  • Plants

  • Harvests

  • Marijuana

Within each category there are multiple subcategories. You can use the default subcategories and also add your own custom subcategories.

MJ Platform provides slightly different functionality for a product depending on the category you assign it to. For example, the pre-pack option is only available for products whose category is Flower, Concentrate, or Marijuana.

How to Set up Product Categories

Open the App Drawer, expand the Facility Settings menu and click Settings (Advanced).

Click Category Management.

Enter a display name for each category. You can enter a different name than the official category name to make it easier to work with. For instance, the Infused category is specifically for infused non-edible products. If you only sell skincare products, you can enter "Infused Skincare" as the display name.

Configure the subcategories of each category:

Select the checkbox for each subcategory of product you work with.

  • If at least one product is assigned to the subcategory, you cannot clear the checkbox. Click the number under Product Quantity to see a list of products assigned to the subcategory.

Enter a display name for each selected subcategory. By default, it is the same as the subcategory name. The display name is the name your staff will see for the subcategory.

If your organization is connected to a state integrator, select an appropriate integrator mapping for the subcategory. The requirement depends on your state integrator.
Caution: For some integrators, such as Metrc, the mapping you select will affect the unit of measure (GR, EA, etc.) for the product masters assigned to the subcategory. This will break the tracking functionality for those product masters if they currently use a different unit of measure. See Caution: below for a list of how each subcategory should be mapped to prevent thiCaution: s.Caution:

Metrc Category Mapping

The following subcategories should be mapped to a specific Metrc subcategory:

Bud

Flower & Buds

Pre-Roll

Flower & Buds

Any Concentrate subcategory

Bulk Concentrate (Weight-Based)

Any Infused Edible subcategory

Edibles Count - Weight
OR
Edibles Count - Volume
Depending on the unit of measure of the product masters in the subcategory.

Any Non-Infused Edible subcategory

If there are multiple applicable category mappings, select the one whose unit of measure matches the unit of measure of the product masters in the subcategory.

Optionally, add custom subcategories by entering a name in the empty field at the bottom of the category and clicking the Add button (+).

  • If your state does not permit custom subcategories, the Add button will not be shown.

  • Note: Once you click Update, you will not be able to delete the added subcategories.

Click Update at the bottom of the page. This updates the category settings for all facility modules.
