You can use the recommended barcode scanner to quickly check in patients in the retail facility module and scan barcode labels to track your inventory.

We recommend the Honeywell Xenon 1950-DL Barcode Scanner. These setup steps assume you have the recommended hardware purchased from our third party PLS site.

Note: Purchase the scanner directly from our third party PLS site, as it comes with the correct firmware preinstalled, which would otherwise need to be purchased from Honeywell separately. We may not be able to help with issues for non-recommended hardware or hardware purchased from another source.

This article covers the following topics:

How it Works

When you scan a barcode, the scanner turns the information from the barcode into text and automatically types it into the active field.

On certain pages in MJ Platform, such as the Patient Check-in page and the Create Patient page, there is a button that opens a scan field. MJ Platform can interpret the text that the scanner inputs into the field and can then automatically fill the applicable fields (such as first name, date of birth, etc.) with the information taken from the scanned barcode.

Connecting the Scanner to Your Computer

Turn the computer off, then connect the scanner to your computer through a USB port. When you turn the computer back on, it should detect the scanner.

Scan the barcode below to set the scanner to USB keyboard mode.

Checking for the Required Internal Software

The scanner needs to be equipped with one of the proper software plugins to work properly.

With the scanner connected to your computer, open a text editing program and ensure the cursor is ready for keyboard input. Then scan the barcode below. (For information on scanning 2D barcodes such as the one below, refer to the scanner's instruction manual.)

Look at the characters typed out in the text editor to see what action to take:

  • "EasyParse for DL 2.0 Version : 4, x. x": (x can be any number). This means the scanner is properly equipped. You can skip to the next section Preparing the Scanner for MJ Platform.

  • "EasyParse for DL 2.0 Version : y, x. x": (where y is any number other than 4; and x can be any number). This means the scanner was purchased from a vendor other than our third party PLS site, and is equipped with a firmware that might be compatible with MJ Platform. To ensure compatibility, purchase and install the verified version 4 firmware listed above from Honeywell.

  • "@#$EasyParseDL_2_0Version$#@": This means the scanner is not equipped with EasyDL v2. Proceed to the next barcode below to check if it is equipped with another compatible software plugin.

  • (no text appears but scanner indicated successful scan): This may indicate that the scanner is equipped with a free trial version.

If the scanner is not equipped with the EasyDL v2 software plugin, scan the barcode below.

Look at the characters typed out in the text editor to see what action to take:

  • "EasyDL Version 1. x. x": (x can be any number). This means the scanner is properly equipped. You can skip to the next section Preparing the Scanner for MJ Platform.

  • "@#$EasyDLVersion$#@": This means the scanner is not equipped with EasyDL v1. Proceed to the next barcode below to check if it is equipped with another compatible software plugin.

  • (no text appears but scanner indicated successful scan): This may indicate that the scanner is equipped with a free trial version.

Scan the barcode below as an alternative check for the proper software plugin.

Look at the characters typed out in the text editor to see what action to take:

  • "EasyDL Version 1. x. x" or "EasyID Version 1. x. x": (x can be any number). This means the scanner is properly equipped. You can continue to the next section Preparing the Scanner for MJ Platform.

  • "@#$EasyDLVersion$#@" or "@#$EasyIDVersion$#@": This means the scanner is not equipped with EasyDL v1. Contact Honeywell to resolve the issue.

  • (no text appears but scanner indicated successful scan): This may indicate that the scanner is equipped with a free trial version. Contact Honeywell at 1-877-841-2840 to resolve the issue.

Contact Honeywell if the scanner indicates it is not equipped with a proper software plugin.

Preparing the Scanner for MJ Platform

Scan the barcode below. This barcode configures the scanner to parse information in a way that is compatible with MJ Platform.

Automatic Carriage Return (Enter key)

Optionally, you can configure the scanner to automatically add a carriage return after it outputs the information from a barcode. This means it will automatically "press" Enter/Return for you after scanning a barcode so that you don't need to.

Scan this barcode to add the carriage return (CR) suffix.

Scan the barcode below if you want to remove the suffix at a later time.

Scanning a Driver's License

To test the scanner, scan a license when adding a new patient profile:

  1. Open the App Drawer, expand the People menu and click Create Patient.

  2. Scroll to the Address Information bar and click it to expand the section.

  3. From the Country drop-down menu, select United States.

  4. Click Scan License at the top-right of the page to open the Scan Now window.

  5. With the cursor ready for text input, scan the 2D barcode on the back of the driver's license.
If successful, information that can be pulled from the barcode is automatically entered into the applicable fields on the page.
