Set up tax rates in MJ Platform to specify how products in each category and subcategory are taxed.

Note: Tax rates alone do not determine the final tax charged to a client at checkout. After setting up tax rates, set up tax profiles and add the applicable tax rates to them.

How to Create or Modify a Tax Rate

  1. Open the App Drawer and click Facility Settings.

  2. Click Taxes. This opens the Tax Listing page.

  3. Create or modify a tax rate:

    • To create a tax rate, click Create Tax.

    • To modify an existing tax rate:

      1. Click the tab corresponding to the the status of the tax rate (active or inactive).

      2. Select the tax rate from the list and click Modify Tax.

  4. Enter the basic information for the tax rate in the following fields. Required fields are marked with an asterisk:

    • *Tax Rate Name: The name that will be displayed throughout the system to refer to the tax rate.

    • Tax Agency Vendor Name: The government organization that collects the tax. Use this field if you export your accounting data to QuickBooks.

    • *Tax Rate: The tax rate expressed as a percentage. It can contain up to three decimal places.

    • Active: Select the checkbox to enable the tax rate, or clear the checkbox to disable it.

  5. Select the fulfillment methods the tax rate applies to.

    • The Curbside Pickup option is treated the same as the In Store option, and is left in for compatibility with previous versions of MJ Platform.

  6. If you included the Delivery option, enter the applicable zip codes.

    • Separate each zip code with a comma.

    • Leave the field blank to make the tax rate applicable to all zip codes.

  7. Select the product categories the tax rate applies to.

    • For each category you select, an additional set of fields is displayed to give you control over the subcategories.

  8. Specify the subcategories within each category the tax rate applies to:

    • To apply the tax rate to all subcategories of a category, select the Apply To Whole Category checkbox.

    • To apply the tax rate only to some subcategories, clear the Apply To Whole Category checkbox and remove/add items to the field.

  9. If you are creating a tax rate and want to create multiple rates in one go, click Add Tax Rate (+) and continue from step 4.

  10. Click Save to return to the Tax Listing page with your additions or changes applied.
