MJ Freeway has worked with the Utah Department of Health and Department of Agriculture to standardize the available product subcategories to align with those allowed in Utah, per the medical cannabis regulations. The standardization puts Leaf Data Systems in a better position to automatically adjust testing lab workflows based on the subcategory of product being tested. For example, test result inheritance and required test result categories and dimensions are now determined based on product subcategories. This allows licensees to stay in compliance with regulatory requirements.

This article covers the following topics:

Affected Users

All Utah facilities are affected, but this update affects the Category Management page, which is only accessible to users with administrative permissions to manage categories in Leaf Data Systems.

What to Expect

The standardization of subcategories comes with some changes to category management.

No subcategory customization for medicated products

For medicated products, display names for subcategories in Leaf Data Systems have been standardized to align with Utah product categories. Licensee users will no longer be able to:

  • update subcategory display names

  • add custom subcategories

Product masters in deprecated subcategories will be remapped

For medicated product subcategories that have been deprecated by Utah, all existing products under the subcategories will be remapped to the accepted remaining subcategories automatically. No user action is required.

Custom subcategories will be remapped

For medicated products, custom subcategories that were previously created will need to be remapped to the remaining available subcategories. This will occur within one week following the deployment of the initial Category Management Updates.

Unmedicated products are unaffected

There will be no changes to or constraints added to unmedicated products. Users will still be able to adjust the display names of unmedicated products and add custom subcategories to this category.

Change Details

If you have administrative permissions to manage categories, you can view the changes on the Category Management page.

  1. Open the App Drawer and click Facility Settings.

  2. Click Advanced Settings.

  3. Click Category Management.

On the Category Management page, note the following changes:

Any custom subcategories previously created will still be visible and editable when the change is first implemented. A backend script will then be automatically remap them to a standardized subcategory.

The ability to add custom subcategories has been removed.
