In California, Metrc has certain requirements for transferring inventory to a retail location from your own cultivation or E&I location. Follow this procedure to perform this type of internal transfer.

In this article:

Ensure all Sales Locations Exist in Metrc

Log into Metrc and ensure that all the retail and sales locations you have in MJ Platform are there. If they aren't follow this procedure.

  1. Log into the Retail facility receiving the inventory.

  2. Open the App Drawer and click Facility Settings.

  3. Click Sales Locations.

  4. Make a small change, such as increasing the square footage field of one of the retail locations by 0.01.

  5. Click Save All Changes, then wait for the locations to sync to Metrc.

    • If the button is disabled, ensure that all the required fields (marked with an asterisk) are filled out. In particular, ensure the Integrated Location Name fields are all properly set up.

    • It can take up to 5 minutes to sync to Metrc. You can check if the sync happened by logging into Metrc (if you've logged out of it), going to the locations page, and refreshing the page.

    • You can also check the API log in MJ Platform to ensure the push to Metrc was successful.

Transferring Inventory Internally

Before you begin, log into Metrc and ensure that all the retail and sales locations you have in MJ Platform are there. If they aren't follow the procedure above.

  1. Open the App Drawer and click Inventory.

  2. Split the packages that are to be transferred. You can do this in one of the following ways:

    • Without a Scanner: Find the package in the list. You can use the Search bar to make it easier to find. Then click it to expand its row. Select the checkbox of the correct package ID and click Split Package at the top of the page.

    • With a Scanner: Click Split Package, then click into the field and scan the package. The page should load the split options. If nothing happens, press Enter on the keyboard.

  3. Fill out the fields for each selected package to take some inventory from them and put it into the packages destined for transfer:

    • Quantity Per Split: Enter the amount of inventory from the package that will be transferred.

    • # of Splits: Set this to 1.

    • Tracking Id: Select the Metrc tag you will put on the package.

    • Purpose: Not required, but you can select Approved for Sale if that is important to you for internal reporting purposes.

  4. Next to the Modification Date field at the bottom of the page, click Today, or click into the field to select another date.

  5. Click Save or Save and Print. The package(s) will now appear on the Inventory page.

    • If an error message appears informing you that the item is not in your list of Metrc items, highlight the package ID on the page with the mouse. Check the ID carefully, including any hidden spaces at the beginning or end. Then log into Metrc and search for the same package. Check the ID very carefully, including hidden spaces at the beginning or end. If there is a mismatch by even one character, the sync cannot work. Edit the ID in Metrc to make it match the one in MJ Platform.

  6. Log into Metrc and select the packages that you've just created from the split. Move them to the retail location they will be transferred to.

  7. Complete the transfer (starting from step 4).

Receiving Inventory Internally

  1. Log into the retail facility receiving the inventory.

    • Ensure the inventory receipt contains all the inventory quantities, package IDs, and barcode numbers.
